Xiaomi launched a line of new products today, here is the low down on their latest air cleaner.
The Xiaomi Mija Air Purifier
This is a new design that mounts on the wall and saves you floor space, the design also incorporates a new filtration system.
How is it different from the Xiaomi Air Pro?
The air cycle.
Previous air filters just cleaned indoor air by cycling it through a filter. The Mijia Air filter filters air from outside and brings it into the house. This positive pressure filter cycles the air in the house by pushing out old air through cracks in the doors and windows. This is much more healthy as it cycles out indoor pollutants and keeps the air fresh. For installation tho, it means you need to put a hole in the wall to vent to outside.
Built-in heater
As air comes from outside, in winter it has a built-in heater so it can warm the air before it comes into the house. This is great for cold climates but it does not appear to cool the air in summer, so it could draw in hot air and make the air conditioning work harder.
Minor Differences
- This is designed for a large area of up to 105 meters squared.
- Quiet 24 dB operation – So quiet you can sleep next to it without noticing the fan.
- The power consumption is low. With 300 meters per hour, it claims to cost only .5 RMB per day to run. We see this as a great new higher powered cleaner, however, like their previous filters, some things are worth noting. The quiet operation is usually rated at its lowest speed, so yes it is quiet, but if you want the 300 meters per hour it would likely be at a faster speed and louder rate.
- Onboard voice assistant Xiao AI, this gives you connection to the Xiaomi ecosystem, so if you have other Xiaomi devices you can control them similar to the Alexa.
- Filtration, not a lot has been released yet but it has an improved 3 layer filtration. So this is an unconfirmed extra difference.
- Touch Screen, the screen is similar to the Air 2 but it also now has touch capability so you can control it directly. The Air 2 still has the button to cycle between 3 modes (favorite, auto and sleep) but this touch screen gives you fill speed control.
Mijia Air filter gives you ventilation and purification so you can place this in one part of the house and bring clean air to the whole house. It also is wall mounted to save floor space.
Most other positive ventilation systems require vents in each room, so this simplifies it, you only need one hole in the wall to give the house clean air.
