Xiaomi has unveiled the Mi MIX 2, a classy flagship with no bezels. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, also known as the Mi Mix Evo has an overall design that is based on its predecessor, the Xiaomi Mi MIX.

The original MIX made headlines as the first thin bezel smartphone, the Mix 2 brings some welcome improvements.

Xiaomi MIX2 vs. MIX Upgrades Summary

  • Smaller screen but larger resolution.
  • 10% lighter.
  • A massive increase in processor power, Snapdragon 835 vs. 821.
  • 6 Gb vs. 4Gb.
  • 12MP Sony camera, less MP than the original MIX but better performance.
  • Smaller battery 3400mAh vs. 4400mAh.

The Mi MIX 2 is presented in two models. The standard model has a metal chassis and ceramic back while the Special edition comes in a ceramic unibody and costs slightly more than the regular version. Note that the limited edition will only be made available in smaller quantities.

The MIX 2 boasts an HD+ display. While the Mi MIX had a 6.4-inch panel, the Mix 2 has a 5.99-inch display with a resolution of 2160 X 1080, which falls slightly above 1080P resolution quality. The screen ratio of 18:9 mimics the LG G6. By far the attraction here is the edgeless design, the screen covers more of the front than the original, but despite some of the photos floating around the net, it is not entirely edgeless, there is a thin screenless zone at the bottom. This area is for the front camera, which just like the MIX requires you to flip the phone upside down to take a selfie.

Camera

The optics incorporated onto the Mi Mix 2 provide a bitter-sweet experience. There is a 12 MP on the rear and a 5 MP selfie camera at the front. The primary snapper produces high-quality images and boasts of complete PDAF for lightning fast focusing. In low light conditions, the Sony sensor still does very well, as it leaves out most noise and grain typically seen on smartphone cameras. The selfie camera, on the other hand, nothing spectacular. Images produced by the selfie snapper are ok but lack the great detailing you would typically find or expect from a premium quality device camera.

Performance

mix2 1 When it comes to the performance of the Mix 2, you should expect no issues, thanks to the Snapdragon 835 processor with the massive 6 GB of RAM that power the device on the standard edition and 8GB on the limited edition. We experienced no slowdowns when running apps and the interface makes smooth transitions between Apps.

Software

The handset runs the latest Android 7.1.1 with the MIUI 9 on top. MIUI enthusiasts will be glad to learn that the MIUI version installed on ours is the global ROM. While it is a colorful overlay installed over Android Nougat, you will get regular MIUI updates with additional features requested by customers in the Xaomi community.

Battery Life

The ample battery capacity of 3400 mAh essentially means you can go a full day with no need to recharge the phone. Even heavy users should be able to get a full day of use and approximately 4-6 hours of screen-on time (SOT). If you use the battery saving features provided by Xiaomi, you are likely to get even more usage time and SOT.

Even if you are not able to go through a full day with the Mi Mix 2, you can top it off quickly, thanks to the Quick Charge 3.0 feature incorporated in the device.

Final Wordsxiaomi mix2

The Xiaomi Mix 2 is a delightful smartphone and by far the most popular release from Xiomi this year. Even if you compare it to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, you will pleasantly discover that it can do everything the Note 8 does and more.
