If you are like me, the first time I saw this I was reminded of an egg timer. Essentially it is, just they have removed the smaller numbers and added a tripod camera screw. It is a simple concept that works and this is my take on the first steps in the world of time-lapse.
The beauty is it has a screw mount on the bottom and top so can be used on a tripod and is compatible with any standard camera, even your phone/action cam (with an adapter).

Time-lapse photography?
If you have seen a video before of time going fast, such as a blue sky with clouds racing by or a sunset video, it is a timelapse. It basically means taking a lot of photos or a really long video, then speeding it up to show time passing faster than reality.
Have an egg timer at home? DIY one yourself!
I have not tried but there are plenty of photos of others, so if you already have a flat top timer get out the blue tac or screwdriver and make your own custom one.
How to make an egg timer time-lapse.
Really simple; we used an action cam to make a time-lapse; the app for many cameras have options for photo speed. We set ours to take a photo every 5 seconds, started the recording, wound the timer then let it sit for half an hour each time. Check your camera has a timed shutter, if it does not you can record a video for the entire time, but you might need to plug in the charger and have a big memory card.
The egg timer can’t do everything!
- When compared to time-lapse lapse equipment not inspired by kitchen items, these limitations surface;
- It does not have adjustable timing so 15 mins are always 45 degrees and 1 hour covers the full 360-degree range. If you like the standard effect it is still a great option and gives some amazing results, of course, you need a good location.
- It cannot handle heavy cameras.
I’m blown away by how amazing my shots came and eager to visit some nice looking places and really produce some cool time-lapse effects.
