Installing LED strip lighting is an easy way to add a unique look to your home and a great step into smart home living. We have created this quick guide to smart LED strip lighting with the Arilux LC-06.
A regular LED strip is controlled with a remote or switch that offers a fixed range of colors. With smart controllers you can adjust your lights from your phone anywhere and create your own lighting modes.
The Smart LED strip controller software.
App setup is easy:
- Install the Magic Home app.
- Each controller is then paired to your phone
- You program it to connect to your home WiFi,
- Once the initial setup is complete it will show in your phone as a device and can be operated both inside and outside the home via the cellphones data connection.
With timers, lighting groups, and custom color modes you can get into some really advanced functions and program almost any color combination. Using timers you can also automate the lighting system. We dive deeper into the app features in our Arilux B01 review.
We found it instantly better than Bluetooth
Bluetooth based bulbs and lights can be slow to reconnect and control, WiFi connections are always active so with this controller the controls are instantly responsive.
The internal memory means you can also connect a hard wired switch and when turned back on it will resume the previous lighting mode.
How to physically setup the Arilux Magic light.
Once you have decided where to run the strip lights you just connect the Magic Light between the power adapter and the strip light.
Once connected together you just power it on and the remote control will operate already.
For the smart controls, you just download the Magic home app and follow the WiFi connection procedure.
What lights can I connect to the LC-06 ?
There are 4 options 2 RGBW and 2 RGB, the difference is one has the IR controller and the others are WiFi only.
The LC-06 is designed to be paired with 9-12V LED strip lights or pendant lights with wiring similar to what is shown below.
It’s worth noting that if you already have an RGB/RGBW strip setup, you can smarten it by just swapping the controller to the Arilux.
Where do I put the strip lights?
Choosing an led strip light depends on the intended purpose, for standard smart home installations smart strip lighting is good on the ceiling edges pointing up towards the ceiling, there are many more creative and unique places to install strip lighting.
In most setups you don’t see the light directly, instead, it gives a subtle background light to the room.
Once you know the length you require you can choose a strip light to match the length.
