Myths about Chinese rugged phones

First at all, I would like to say that most people who buy Rugged phones can be divided into two categories, first is the professional, who needs a protected device and second is the outdoor activity lovers.

For the people whose life is full of crashes and bashes, a standard phone will not survive a day in their lifestyle. It’s better to get a product from an already famous brand such Getac or Cat; they are tested and fully guaranteed. These are expensive options though, if you want to save some money just buy an iPhone, Samsung or Sony with an additional shock and waterproof cover, these are widely available and produced by a significant number of companies. Another advantage of this solution is that if you use an iPhone or Samsung, it also can be used with satellite phone module, which will make you entirely mobile and independent of transmitter towers

But if you need just a cool accessory phone or something you are not worried to break, then a rugged Chinese phone is a good solution. It is not a powerhouse, but it has protection and can be treated rough.

But let’s destroy some myths about manufacturer specs.

First, I notice almost all Chinese phones have IP-6X certification, which is cool but it only shows that the phone has Water and Dust protection. If you look at their big brothers, you will see that almost all of them have not only IP-6X but also some MIL-STD certification, which means shock protection and temperature protection. If it does not carry MIL-STD certification it is a lot cheaper, even Chinese Phones with Mil-STD certificates usually have a price well above USD 500, and if you already have Samsung or iPhone, it is easier just to buy a particular certified case for them.

Crushproof?

Some brands like to show that their phones are fit enough to work after a car runs them over, but you always will see that screen of the phone is facing the tire. This is not a function of a rugged phone, if you type on YouTube “Samsung vs. car” or “Motorola vs. Car,” you will found allot of-of videos where phones get run over without any damage, and they are all regular phones.

Rugged phone accessories

Often Chinese phones come with some additional accessories to attract you, but if you try to use them, you will see that most of the time they are gimmicky, and most time you will just leave it in the box, or even throw it away.

Summing up, you really want to be sure you are purchasing a certified MIL-STD phone or case, we recommend a case as a real rugged phone is expensive compared to a replaceable sturdy case for your iPhone or Samsung.
