Xiaomi Bike?
Xiaomi has started 2015 with new phones, sport bands, power boards and in an unprecedented leap has announced its $160 dollar smart bike. From the surface, it looks to bring Xiaomi’s reputation for value per dollar and sleek style into the Cycle market.
What exactly is a smart bike? Xiaomi’s idea is to build a smart computer control system into the bike itself. From our understanding it is not central to the function of the bike, instead, it extends into navigation and distance and a connection to your phone to access notifications. If you have a smartwatch there is little need for a smart bike, that’s the smart side of the story.
Xiaomi bike specifications
It appears to have;
- Disc brakes both front and back
- Multi-speed gears, up to 21 Speed
- Single piece traditional bike frame
Xiaomi like to borrow tech from other companies, they have Samsung batteries in their power banks, so it is possible specific parts such as the gear and control arms are from another company, maybe not the likes of Shimano but possibly some specialized bike company. You can pack all the tec you want into the bike, but it needs to perform as a bike, Xiaomi has proven to shine in the electronics industry and now it is their time to shine in the mechanical sector.
Its only speculation but we believe it is likely the battery is charged while you ride. If correct this opens the bike up to more accessories such as headlights and USB power bank functions. All powered by a battery inside the Xiaomi Bike and charged as you ride. Generate your own power!
That’s all the info and ideas we have on the Xiaomi Bike, it is set to launch in China for 997RMB and is the smartest bike we have ever seen.
UPDATE: It seems we have been selling the product but not labeled as Xiaomi, instead the bike is labeled Rockefeller JW650, unsure as to whether Xiaomi sold the design to them, diversified the brand name or I was just fed misinformation, but the Rockefeller is on our site and is identical to the planned Xiaomi bike.
