How To Keep Unwanted Animals Out Of Your Garden

Our solar powered, infrared ultrasonic animal repelling device is a discreet, safe and environmentally responsible way of deterring unwanted visitors to your garden.

It comes in a garden-friendly green color, is only around 14 cm by 40cm in size and is powered by a combination of a solar power panel on the top with a backup of three AA batteries. It’s a harmless alternative to environmentally damaging poisons or even unnecessary traps. Of course it’s not exactly ‘animal-friendly’ but it doesn’t harm animals, just deters them from your garden, and of course, won’t pollute your garden and the ecosystem as chemicals might.

So how does it work?

Apart from the solar panel, there are three main features to the device: The Passive Infrared Sensor (PIR), the Ultrasonic wave emission; and LED flashing light.

The PIR Sensor (Passive Infrared Sensor)

A PIR Sensor is a sensor which detects infrared rays, commonly used for light sensors by your front door or burglar alarm. It’s called passive because it’s not emitting anything itself but instead waits to detect infrared radiation which is given out by an object moving close to the sensor. An object above absolute zero temperature will give out heat energy in the form of infrared radiation. A PIR picks up on these waves as they pass within its field of detection.

When the animal repelling device detects motion nearby from receiving these waves it triggers ultrasonic sound waves (i.e. we can’t hear them) which will scare away unwanted foxes, snakes or neighbors’ cats. Placing it strategically by a gap in the fence or by your back gate will mean you can keep out intruders without disturbing birds or other important wildlife in your garden.

The LED lights will also act as a deterrent and will operate in dark conditions.

The PIR sensor works across an angle of 110 degrees to deter animals from crossing within a wide area, and overall the deterrent range of the device is 8 meters. There are five separate modes to choose from whereby you can select the appropriate frequency of ultrasonic waves according to what kind of animal you wish to scare away, should you want to target something in particular.
