For over two decades, I’ve been on the road, and my rig is my second home. I’ve used more diesel air heaters than I can count, from the old, clunky ones to the sleek, modern units. Last month, my car was stolen, which had my diesel heater. Winter is coming, and I am looking for a new diesel heater. In recent years, I have been using the Hcalory diesel heater. And it gives me an excellent experience. Thus, I look at the new model from Hcalory first.
When I first saw the Hcalory HBU1S, with its separate diesel heater and fuel tank, I was surprised. Because the separate design would bring a lot for me. And here, I’m going to give you my honest review.

Design and Build: A Different Approach
The initial characteristic you will observe about the Hcalory HBU1S is its divided design. In contrast to conventional all-in-one models that resemble a disorganized toolbox and take up significant space, this heater separates the primary heating unit from the fuel tank. The heater is unexpectedly small and light, set in a sturdy blue and red plastic casing that appears strong enough to withstand the jostles of travel. The additional 10L fuel tank is an independent unit linked through a fuel line.
This division is a significant improvement. In a vehicle such as a truck, this setup enables me to place the compact main unit precisely where warmth is required—possibly hidden beneath my bunk or on a console—while situating the 10L fuel tank in a more accessible or safe area, like an external storage compartment. In an RV, this arrangement allows you to position the heater centrally for uniform heat distribution, with the fuel tank located away from the main living space.
What are the Advantages of a Separate Design?
The separate fuel pump is positioned along the fuel line, enabling you to place it far from your sleeping space to remove the bothersome clicking sound typical of integrated units. Isolating the pump from the main heater significantly reduces noise, offering a substantial advantage for usage during the night. This design enables flexible installation since the compact main heater can fit into narrow areas where an all-in-one unit cannot. In a truck or RV, this allows for improved space efficiency since the tank can be positioned unobtrusively, maximizing essential interior space. Maintenance is simpler too; if the pump breaks down, it can be swapped out as a more affordable, individual component. The division between the fuel tank and combustion chamber enhances safety by avoiding direct contact between the fuel and the heat source. Ultimately, the design facilitates a broader capacity by effortlessly attaching a bigger external tank for prolonged heating. While 10L is enough for me.

How is Hcalory HBU1S?
Fast Heating
Over the past 20 years, I can’t count the times I’ve returned to a cold cab after dining, only to wait thirty minutes for the ancient heater to slowly warm up. I just bear enough. Hcalory HBU1S solve this problem. It features a fully aluminum construction that begins generating hot air in merely one second. That’s not an overstatement. I sensed the heat on my face right away when I turned it on. Hcalory claims that it can warm a 20–27m² space in 10 minutes, which seems reliable. It means I can return to a comfortable, warm car after a brief eating without the cold delay.
Low Consumption to Save More
Older heating systems may use a significant quantity of fuel. I’ve noticed the fuel gauge decreased significantly after just one night of heating. The HBU1S boasts remarkable efficiency, with a fuel usage range of just 0.15–0.44 L/h. That is nearly half of what certain other models consume. When paired with the 10L tank, it can operate nonstop for almost 10 hours. Such low consumption allows you to rest soundly at night without fearing a fuel shortage.
Automatic High-Altitude Mode
For me, the diesel heater must be in high-altitude mode. Because I love to drive through all the mountainous regions, they naturally include them. I’ve had heaters flame out or start producing black smoke at high elevations because of the thinner air. The Hcalory HBU1S features a dual automatic high-altitude mode that automatically adjusts fuel-air mixture to compensate for altitudes from 2,500 m to 5,000 m.

Dual Voltage Supporting
The Hcalory HBU1S supports dual voltage, rated for 12V-24V universal DC power. It means that no matter what type your car is, van, RV, or large transport truck, the Hcalory HBU1S diesel air heater can match it.
Such a multi-use tool that simplifies your life and provides consistent heat wherever you need.

3 Control Methods
I used to have to get out of my bunk just to adjust the temperature. Now, with the HBU1S, I get three ways to control it: the built-in LCD panel, a remote control with a generous 50–100m range, and the Hcalory App for iOS and Android. With the app, I can not only turn it on/off, but set a timer for when I want it to start heating up, all without ever leaving my bunk. That is a good helper for me, lazier.

New 2025 Upgraded Motherboard for Safer
Hcalory HBU1S with the new 2025 upgraded motherboard is safer and provides short circuit protection, reverse connection protection, over-voltage protection, over-heat protection (≥270 °C/518 °F), etc. This Hcalory diesel heater can be used safely in various environments, such as cars, RVs, boats, and indoors.

The separate fuel pump and tank not only furnish a quieter and more flexible setup but also a safer one. Add in the incredible fuel efficiency, the blazing-fast heating, the intelligent altitude mode, and the smart controls, and you have a heater that is absolutely perfect for you.
