After a successful Kickstarter campaign, BlitzWolf has launched the BW-AS1. It is a sleek looking upgrade from their F4 and offers the same 20W power but an improved output.

They were both 20W, whats the difference?

BW have added larger drivers so although the rated output is identical, it is offering a deeper frequency output. The larger active speakers are complemented with a passive bass woofer which further boosts its lows.

The Look

Part of the selling point for this speaker is not just the sound, that was clear in the kick starter campaign. What they did was make an entirely single aluminum shell, well almost, the back is still plastic, but all the other sides are one single cast alloy case.

Its smooth to the touch; does not leave a fingerprint mark, and the neutral grey suits most home environments.4 control buttons of the AS1, power, play/pause, volume down, volume up

The F4 also had a rear power button, so the interface was slightly awkward, the AS1 puts all buttons on the top and simplifies operation.

The blue light at the front is not as bright and intrusive as other speakers we’ve tried, but none the less it is still there. Not a deal breaker, but if using in the dark or as speakers for a movie it can be a bit bright.

It’s impossible to communicate sound quality through a review, so although we’re praising the AS1 as better than the F4, it is marginal. Both are impressive on the sound. So if you’re not turned on by the smooth grey case, the F4 is a good option.
